If your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

Every project is different and requests its own tools and measures. Depending on the scope and timeframe, a bespoke roadmap needs to be set to achieve the best possible outcome. Identifying stakeholders, timelines, potential blockers and expected deliverables is the common ground for setting a good framework. The cornerstones of every project nevertheless usually donʼt change and should only differ in the level of granularity with which each step is undertaken. Meaning that during the whole process there is a need for awareness regarding potential unknowns and the risks coming with them.

Sample framework

Fast delivery

Often time to market is the crucual parameter. In such fast-paced scenarios, it is important that UX does not become a bottleneck, but instead delivers answers quickly. To achieve this the design process needs to be streamlined to its core:

  • Alignment on scope through a functional analysis
  • Wireframing
  • Tested and potentially iterated lo-fi prototype
  • Hi-Fi DesignSpecification and asset creation for development

As with any project it is important to observe the measuresʼ impact after delivery. In order to avoid the risk of being stuck in an MVP becoming the final result iterating and optimizing after shipping is key.

Sample framework

Product discovery

The creation of new products comes with a set of unknowns that need to be tackled in order to find a suitable approach. In contrast to fast deliveries, where the problem is defined by the task itself, in this case it is crucual to first get an understanding of the addressed audience, their needs and pains and align the products architecture with these.

  • Alignment on scope through a functional analysis
  • Personas
  • Well defined problem statement
  • User flow(s)
  • Information architecture
  • Wireframing
  • Tested and potentially iterated lo-fi prototype
  • Tested and potentially iterated Hi-Fi Design
  • Specification and asset creation for development

Since this type of project usually comes with a slower update rate (or even without any reasonable updating possibility at all) the final design should always also be user tested.
